Senior Associate at Websters Lawyers, Andrew Carpenter and Founder and President of Fighters Against Child Abuse Australia, Adam Washbourne have spoken about the proposed legal reform that could see paedophiles stripped of their superannuation.

This comes amidst claims that wealthy child sexual abusers are hiding their assets to avoid paying their victims.

The pair stated that the Federal government said changes would be implemented within the first six months of 2023, but that they had been given no update.

“1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys under the age of 18 experience child sex abuse, and that’s why we need some level of deterrence, like the criminal justice system”.

Washbourne stated that the internet has “opened up the hunting grounds” for child sexual abusers to get in contact with children, highlighting the significance of the issue at hand.
