Super for Survivors

Polished Man

At Websters Lawyers, we are proud to announce that our very own Andrew Carpenter has taken on an inspiring new role as an Ambassador for the Polished Man initiative in 2024. As a leading injury and abuse lawyer dedicated to justice and advocacy, Andrew is uniquely positioned to raise awareness about the critical issue of violence against women and children, a cause that deeply resonates with our firm’s core values.

Polished Man: A Painted Promise to End Violence

The Polished Man initiative is more than just a campaign; it’s a movement aimed at ending violence against women and children. The mission from organisers is simple but powerful: we invite people to paint one of their nails blue—or any colour they prefer—to symbolise their commitment to this crucial cause. Each painted nail serves as a beacon of hope and a conversation starter, prompting people to ask, “What’s with the painted nail?” This question is the gateway to discussions that spread awareness and inspire action.

The movement’s signature colour is blue, but the rainbow of hues chosen by supporters reflects a diverse and united commitment to ending violence. Every painted nail represents a promise—a Painted Promise—to stand up against the abuse and trauma faced by countless women and children worldwide.

Why the Polished Man Initiative Matters

The statistics are staggering: In Australia, at least one woman a week loses her life to violence from a current or former partner. According to Destroy the Joint, this equated to the killing of at least 57 women in 2022 and at least 64 women in 2023 – statistics that paint a devastating picture, and one that sadly continues on in 2024. And yet, these numbers aren’t just statistics; they represent real people — mothers, sisters, children — who are affected by violence every day. By supporting the Polished Man initiative, we can work towards a future where these numbers are reduced to zero.

Polished Man directs the funds raised from its initiatives to support a wide range of programs designed to prevent violence before it starts. These programs enhance accountability, foster community engagement, and empower individuals and families. They also provide vital support to survivors on their path to healing, offering hope and a way forward in the aftermath of violence.
