Super for Survivors partners welcome the news that actor, author and long-time campaigner for abuse victims, Madeleine West (seated third from left), has joined Warriors Advocacy.
Warriors Advocacy was established by the late Russell Manser, who suffered abuse while incarcerated as a seventeen year old in an adult prison. Manser finally spoke out about his ordeal during the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. After reforming, Manser became an outspoken advocate for other survivors of institutional sex abuse.
As a survivor herself, Madeleine has long championed the need for strong advocacy as a means for preventing child exploitation and achieve justice for victims. Madeleine’s commitment also extends to highlighting abuse endured by women and children within their homes and communities.
Websters Lawyers’ Andrew Carpenter welcomes yesterday’s announcement. Andrew has helped many abuse survivors seek justice for their suffering and is a vocal campaigner for legislative changes through the Super for Survivors initiative – changes that, if adopted, will prevent perpetrators from hiding assets in superannuation accounts, ensuring survivors can access these funds as compensation for their suffering.
No doubt, in her new role, Madeleine will carry on with the inspiring work of the organisation’s founder, as advocate, advisor and educator and we wish her every success as she continues to secure positive outcomes for abuse survivors.
